The word "immediately" has its roots in the Latin word "immediatus," meaning "without anything in between." It came into English in the late 15th century, initially meaning "without intermediary" and evolving to its current meaning, which is "at once" or "without delay."

Examples:

  1. Please call me immediately if there are any changes to the schedule.
  2. She responded immediately to the urgent email.
  3. The fire alarm went off, and everyone evacuated the building immediately.
  4. Upon hearing the news, he immediately made arrangements to visit his family.
  5. The doctor saw the patient immediately after the nurse's assessment.

Using "immediately" adds a sense of urgency and promptness to any action. It is often used in both everyday and formal contexts to indicate that something should be done or happened without any delay. Whether in responding to requests, taking action in emergencies, or simply in day-to-day instructions, "immediately" conveys the importance of quick and decisive action.
